Supermodel Iman and her husband, rock legend David Bowie, will be hosting an exclusive dinner and auction on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Fifth Avenue home of singer/ songwriter Denise Rich.
The fundraiser is part of the second annual “National House Party” day, and will benefit the Black Community Children’s Crusade (BCCC), a program developed by Marian Wright Edelman and the Children’s Defense Fund. Across the country on Sept. 26 organizations and individuals will be celebrating a “Day of Hope” to benefit the BCCC by giving house parties and holding other fundraising events.
Bowie and Iman have created and mounted their own version of an intimate dinner which will bring together art, entertainment and popular culture in an auction of porcelain dinner plates which have been autographed and/or designed by entertainers and celebrities.
The donated plates which will be auctioned have come from such superstars and legends as Muhammad Ali, poet Maya Angelou, Bill Cosby, Robert DeNiro, Whoopi Goldberg, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Spike Lee, Madonna, Eddie Murphy, civil rights matriarch Rosa Parks and Oprah Winfrey. The celebrities were asked to create a one-of-a-kind work of art by inscribing, drawing or writing an inspirational message or rendering of their autograph directly on the plates.
Bowie and comedian Hazelle Goodman will act as auctioneers of the plates for the VIP guests who will attend the New York dinner. The invitation-only party will be held at 7 p.m., with the auction taking place at approximately 9 p.m., at 785 Fifth Ave., the private home of Rich. A media preview of the plates will be held at 6 p.m. at the same address.
