Bowie explains

British music legend David Bowie, who delivered one of the best shows of the year at the Molson Amphitheatre on Monday, recently explained why he’s being distributed by Sony these days. Previously, Bowie was on Virgin but left the major label earlier this year saying he was fed up with “bumping heads with corporate structure.”

“Firstly, it’s not a long-term contract, ’cause I don’t ever want to find myself in that kind of position again,” Bowie told The Sun recently. “And secondly it was through my own label so it’s on ISO Records through Columbia. So it gave me the chance to instigate and start my label and have the power of a major company actually supporting (it).”

Bowie said he thinks Sony has done a tremendous job in promoting his new album, Heathen, thus far: “The album’s been selling not only very quickly but constantly. There’s a consistency that is just fabulous. It’s really validated the hard work that producer (Tony) Visconti and I put in.”
